Meet the Stage One team

Meet Neil, Stage One owner/manager:

Just the other madly hectic Saturday I stopped to reflect on the truly marvellous work going on in the salon – and it took my breath away. For it wasn’t just the great work or the fabulous, almost theatrical atmosphere or even the kicking music that thrilled me – but that this was normal for Stage One and that my dream of creating a ‘World within a shop’ is here. It’s in wonderful Bond Street and I love It! Thank you to all our loyal customers and fans for making us the true alternative to super-slick chain salons who don’t realise that when all is said and done it's all about YOU the customer, YOUR hair and YOUR satisfaction that keeps our business improving and getting more enjoyable even though we’ve been trading since 1991. Thank you Brighton!

Mandy - Senior Hair Stylist

I started working with hair at 13 and even then realised that the pretentious side of hairdressing was not for me. My main question from my early career (and still is!) was ‘WHY??’

My mentor was a top hairstylist in show, theatrical and photographic productions. He showed me through show, TV, competition work and even a course in trichology (the science of hair and scalp) – that I could do it as well as him, if not better! I also learnt that communication is the most important part of hairdressing. I have run my own salons and trained many other successful hairdressing professionals, passing on my unparalleled knowledge of colour and haircutting to others.

Neil and I have crossed paths many times in the last 15 years, have grown in hairdressing together; we have a similar philosophy of hairdressing, so when he asked me to join the team it seems right. Still crazy about hair after all these years. I was never happy to be in the chorus line, I like to be centre stage and my performance is fabulously original.

Marie (Junior Stylist)

I started working with hair at the age of 16 however I knew I always wanted to be a hairdresser.

When I was a young child I used to play with my dolls hair and give them cuts and blow-dries.

My whole family, close and extended, have careers in the hair industry so it was always natural for me to carry it on
It’s in our blood and I even went to college with my Mum and Sister.

We took part in college trips, loads of competitions, extension courses and we all had the best time.
I have achieved all of the level requirements and college certificates including advanced level 3

I found Stage One when I was walking through town and as I walked in to hand in my resume, the salon owner Neil was so kind and encouraging that I knew I would love to work here

David (massage therapist)

“Hola!

My name is David and I come from Madrid, in Spain.

I have been living in Brighton for the last 10 years and here I feel at home!

I have spent the last six years building up my massage business, and finally I found the right place in Stage One Salon, in the heart of the city, in Bond Street. You can feel magical vibes when you cross the door, the staff are friendly and supportive. I’m grateful for the support I received since I arrived. Thank you!

In 2006 I was the Spanish KunFu champion, and unfortunately I had a serious injury, I broke one of the tendons in my biceps and in a split second my career as an elite athlete was over.

This caused me no end of frustration and affected me at all levels. I experienced bad sleep, stress and body tension for many years.

Then I learned that through massage one can heal most of your conditions, whether physical or emotional. I began a recovering process to turn my sufferings and frustrations into motivation to learn about my own body, so I could stop repeating previous mistakes and unhelpful patterns.

Massage became my passion and I trained extensively in a variety of massage techniques that now I want to share with you: I am an international Thai massage teacher, I qualified in Sports Massage, Soft Tissue, Thai Reflexology, Deep Tissue, trigger point Therapy and Reiki Healing.

I have already provided a top quality professional service to over two hundred clients, women and men of all ages in and around the city. I create a soothing environment where my clients can relax and feel safe, half of my clients are women and more than half are over 50. Through the convenience and pricing that I offer, I strive to maximise the benefits of massage in people’s lives by becoming part of a regular routine rather than as a one-off service when problems arise.

I am covered by industry-leading insurance and am DBS certified, as well as being a member of SMA (Association for Soft Tissue Therapists).

Get in touch to find out more about how I can help provide you with the massage service that best suits your needs and lifestyle. With me, you will be in good hands!”
